Our town Callac
Callac is a small market town in the center of Brittany. It is walking distance from our house and gite - between 10 and 15 minutes..
The town itself has been here since the 12th century when it grew up at the base of a large castle. The castle was besieged several times and finally raised to the ground in the 17th century. Most of the stone from the castle was apparently gleaned by the locals and recycled into many properties around here!
The town has everything you could wish for, restaurants, bars, hairdressers, a butcher and bakers,a selection of useful shops, and two supermarkets. On top of this there is a bustling market every Wednesday throughout the year.
Callac also boasts a Bretton spaniel museum as this is where the breed originated, and a large statue of a famous Bretton horse -
